11 Memorable Things I Ate In 2012
I’m not much one for keeping score, but as another year goes by it’s nice to spend a few moments thinking about all the things we’ve done, the places we’ve been, and especially all the delicious things we’ve eaten.
I ate a lot of good stuff this year and here, in no particular order, are a few that stuck in my mind.
- No. 2 Burger – Pearl’s Diner, Adelaide
- Springbok, corn, pap and apple – The Saxon, Johannesburg
- Kuruma-ebi nigiri sushi – Sukiyabashi Jiro, Ginza
- Chicago-style deep-dish sausage pizza – made by my sister-in-law who lives in Ohio
- Oysters and Succulents – Attica, Ripponlea
- Banana leaf – Nirvana, Bangsar
- Taco rice cheese yasai – King Tacos, Okinawa
- Lantern yakitori – Torishiki, Meguro
- King George Whiting usuzukuri – Sokyo, Sydney
- Injera and wat – Abyssinia, Indianapolis
- Congee with ham, yolk and Earl Grey tea – Momofuku Seiobo, Sydney
Any dishes, meals or experiences that stand out in 2012 for you?
your laksa fried chicken, our own sate babi, dimsums in Fong Sheng Meppel and Ou Hai Groningen. Watching Australian M asterchef and finding out I can cook some decent dishes myself.

Sounds delicious!

Chicago-style deep-dish sausage pizza looks really good.
Looks like you have had some yummy dishes there in some exotic places! Would be interested to know what chocolates/desserts you liked best.
Nirvana Curry House located in Malaysia Bangsar… One of my favorite…
I really like that the best Indian food you ate was not in India, but was in Indianapolis.
Seems incredibly appropriate.
Hi, I stumbled across this posting while chasing an old, nostalgic buzz.
I was so happy to see that you ate at King Tacos in Okinawa, and that you thought it worthy enough to be considered memorable. Seeing that picture brought a world I had thought of as forgotten.
I spent many, many nights in my early adolescents stumbling in this exact spot. In a drunkingly fashion with friends, we would be discussing and reflecting of our nights together over a delicious meal of taco rice. I must say a smile has been stamped on my face. I almost feel 21 again.
Thank you much!
